Every year, it’s an exciting day on Vancouver Island, in Baynes Sound, with great viewpoints from between Denman Island and Hornby Island, from Fanny Bay to Bowser to Qualicum Bay … when fisheries allow gillnets and seine to fish herring.

Sea lions, seals, bald eagles, loads of herring, tons of fishing boats of all sizes, and hundreds of seagulls can be found, during a hub of activity. A photographers delight.

Every year I’m out with my camera, capturing the action, and last year, my photographs were in the newspaper.

This year, however, I missed it … I think I was in Mexico when it happened. Hmmmm. Mexico, sun tan, swimming in warm tropical waters, or herring? Well … I chose Mexico this year.

Anyway, although I missed the main herring run, the sea lions and seagulls were still feasting a couple of days ago, and I got a small glimpse of a remnant of that beautiful milky turquoise herring enriched waters on Vancouver Island. The color, simply is amazing, and I was happy just to see a small bit even, this year.

Enjoy.

Hey Wanda, thanks for connecting with me, and for taking the time to have a look at my website, photos and art. Hope you are well. Sailboat? That is so totally cool, and Pender Harbour is such a beautiful place. My Dad used to take us fishing there on a pretty regular basis. My email address is on the contact page.
