iPhone Photography

As Chase Jarvis would say, the “best camera is the one you have with you.”

When I got my iPhone 3G a couple of years ago, I was skeptical, as I found the quality of the images to be inferior, but after reading and following Chase Jarvis more and more, I took it upon myself to address the poor iPhone image quality as an artistic challenge, to see what I could do, with what I thought at that time, was “a crappy cell phone camera” … And I am thrilled with the results I am now getting with my iPhone. It has taken me into a new way of seeing.

It really is an ART, iPhone photography, and I’m enjoying it thoroughly.

Has my opinion changed about the iPhone 3G as far as image quality?

NO.

However, what has changed, is my choice to focus on the JOY of iPhone photography in the moment. Isn’t what what it’s all about? Joy? And, it has forced me to be more creative, to focus on composition, to slow down and really be selective of what I am capturing. iPhone photography is not fast, there’s no tricks or speedy shutter, fancy lenses or multiple frames per second.

What there is, however, is a load of cool photography apps for post-processing, including HDR effects such as these below, and it has created a new art form, and for that, I am grateful.

And … I will also say that fancy apps are useless unless you still focus on the basics from fine art school, including color, composition, line, rule of thirds, texture, form and negative space, etc.

So here’s a couple of images for you, my favorites to date, that I had a lot of FUN with. Enjoy. (**And if you want to see more iPhone creativity, please watch throughout my BLOG for the tags and categories iPhone Art and iPhone Photography**)
