In 2011 I was selected as a Featured Speaker at Social Media Camp (a social media conference in Victoria, B.C., on Vancouver Island) and I spoke on the topic of iPhone Photography for Marketing and for Personal, Self-Expression.

In order to show some of the elements of fine art and design used in photography, I used this image as one example, as a display of the elements of both texture and line.

This is Number 40 of my 50 Photos 50 Years iPhone image project.

These horses were photographed in the Cariboo of B.C., on one of my adventures, and this image is an example of what you can do with only the Camera+ iPhone app applied (including the frame) during post-processing.

* I mentioned Camera+ during my session as a Speaker at Social Media Camp.*

Here’s a little more information in another post about Camera+ and it’s developer. Camera+ is an easy to use app, for beginner photographers to advanced image makers, although in many of my other photos, I do tend to use Camera+ when combined with another app as well, or in addition to.

In order to get the most creative and artistic effects, I rarely anymore, rely on only one app per photograph. However, if you are just starting out with iPhoneography, this is an awesome place to start!

TIP : Have FUN, take loads of photos, get out there, off of the computer, and focus on the JOY of iPhone photography first, over anything else 🙂

Pull out your iPhone, here’s one of my secret tips for you iPhone photography lovers out there.

(today) If you were to purchase only ONE iPhone photography app to get started, here’s a good one. Camera+ is a super app for anyone, from beginner, to advanced photographers. It’s one of my most used apps.

If you would like to read a little more information about the Camera+ iPhone photo app, here’s the success story, and a little bit about the woman developer of the app. I LOVED hearing this success story, and that it is a woman app developer (Lisa Bettany), even better. ( ** after writing this post, Lisa replied to my Tweet to tell me that she actually grew up on Vancouver Island, in Victoria. Even better! Another Vancouver Island success story! You can follow Lisa on Twitter here : @mostlylisa ** )

So if you are looking for a new career, and have the talent for iPhone app development, there is not a better time than right now, to figure it out, and dive in.

Here’s the story about Camera+ and iPhone app developer Lisa Bettany

TIP : Here’s an example of how you could quickly enhance a basic iPhone photo using Camera+. Here is the original image, right out of the iPhone camera, and it’s an “average” photo. It’s just “OK” in my opinion:

Dozen Eggs

Next, here is that same original, with the “clarity” filter applied, which makes an “average” photo a little sharper, a little more vibrant, with the colors a little more saturated. This is not a “gimicky” application to a photo, which I like, but simply a way to make an “average” or “OK” iPhone photo just a touch better:

one dozen eggs

Finally, here is the original, cropped to square using Camera+ and then with a couple of filters applied, one on top of the other, in order to achieve another possibility for an interesting and creative photo, with a different composition, bringing your subject (eggs) in, even closer, and with new color enhancement applied:

The possibilities are endless with Camera+ so have FUN with it 🙂

Here’s one more image, and an excellent example of what you can do, when using only the Camera+ app: Horses on a Horse Ranch in the Cariboo of B.C.

Thanks for popping by my blog, and I hope this has been eggxactly what you needed to see and hear today 🙂 More iPhone Photography Tips coming soon!

P.S. Camera+ is one of the iPhoneography photo apps that I mentioned at my Speaking Engagement at Social Media Camp 2011 ** If you would like to book me as a workshop presenter or speaker on iPhone photography, and on how you can use it as a marketing tool for your business, and/or simply for personal creative expression through art, please call me at 1 (250) 335 – 1195 **

You’ve got an iPhone, now what? Why use it? How can you use it? What to use it for? What the heck did I get an iPhone for? … you might be asking yourself.

Here’s two reasons why. 1. Create ART. 2. Turn something plain, even boring, into stunning art. The other two reasons?

Have **FUN with Wildlife Warnings on Vancouver Island : 1. A black bear. 2. A cougar

(**actually these warnings are very serious … It’s the creating of  ART that is fun and a joy to me**)

**The very real wildlife warnings that you might see posted in parks on Vancouver Island are very REAL. Read them, listen to them, learn, believe the signs. If in doubt, don’t go out there. We do have cougar and black bear on the Island. I LOVE wildlife like most people, however, I will always listen to the warnings and heed any signs posted. Hope you do to. Respect the outdoors and those who live in it, wildlife.**

Ohhh, now back to the creation of ART. This is an example of taking something fairly boring, a wildlife warning sign, and turning it into something stunning, a work of art, entirely ONLY with an iPhone 3G. Yes. There are a few tricks.

The main way that you create stunning art, in my opinion, is GO OUTDOORS IN NATURE. Nature is Art. If nothing else, it will inspire you to create better art in the city. Most people walk past these signs, which are white, fairly dull, nothing exciting. But if you SLOW DOWN enough to really SEE when you are out there with your camera, it’s amazing what you can SEE and create. Enjoy. These are two of my favorites now, in my iPhoneography collection.
