Some of my best photographs have been taken while driving down the road towards a destination, seeing something interesting out in a field, and then pulling over to the side of the road, grabbing the camera, hopping out of the car, and then having a really great travel experience moment. It’s the moments that matter.

I LOVE the spontaneity of vacations and travel photography, and some of the best vacation photographs are taken not once you arrive at the destination, but on the journey. Just like life?

And about this image? Well, horses are curious. That is one of the things I love about them. I always have my camera super ready, whenever I see horses before I even get out of my car, because 99% of the time, if they think you have good energy (and they do psychically know) then they will come over to the fence and see you.

Some of the best shots happen while the horses are coming from far away in the field, over to see me. That is when I shoot on high speed continuous and/or TV mode as they are coming towards me. This image was taken in the Interior of British Columbia. Love the birds in the image as well!

These photos were taken on a 2008 trip to Molokai, Hawaii, and if you want a Hawaiian vacation away from the crowds, full of peace and serenity, Molokai is the place. These photos bring back great memories, and I would go back to Molokai in a heartbeat.

There were two young men at the beach, fishing at sunset off of the rocks near the beach, and it was a great chance for me to practice shutter priority and also low light situations, as the sun was going down.

I love how these images have turned out, and the love the ghosted, almost transparent and multiple layered images. (*look for it … it’s there)

Photographers need artists, and that is why I love everything about this photograph – the image, the art, the composition, the lighting, the expression on the face, the lines, the fact that it is hand made, the fact that it is made from real natural wood … and the color, oooooh, the color, I LOVE the colors, so warm and sunny.

This photo makes me feel really good and happy, just looking at it. It also makes me think of the skill of the original artist who created it, and what it meant to them, and what they were thinking and feeling at the moment of creating the carving.

Photography is an art, and, this photo in particular, is “art of art” and the success of the image comes from my eye for seeing the composition, which came from how the original artist impacted me enough to draw me in, and even want to focus, think, feel, and take a photograph.

Photographers need artists in every medium and from every modality to inspire, to collaborate, to make us think and feel, so we can take better and better photographs over time.

I LOVE DOGS.

The majority of my dog photographs are posted on my other website, phoDOGraphy.ca … please have a look if you love dogs, or want to book a dog photography session with your dog or puppy. I travel to you!

These next two images are part of my travel photography, taken during a 2008 trip to Molokai, Hawaii. This rural blue-eyed dog was timid, as you can see, but did stick around long enough for me to get a couple of photos.

Mannequins in Mexico

On March 21, 2010, in Mannequins, Travel Photography, by brendajohima

I thoroughly enjoy travel photography, and I usually never travel now, with less than at least a couple of different cameras. Whenever I do travel, I find the mannequins in store displays fascinating, and love the vibrant color combinations and contrasting colors used in this one in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico:
