I live in the beautiful Comox Valley, in Fanny Bay, on Vancouver Island and rarely take a stance on political issues on my blog … I prefer to keep the focus on my art and photography … however, as this proposed Coal Mine will be minutes from my door, I do want to say that I am 100% opposed to a coal mine on Vancouver Island. There are newer, greener technologies available at this time and there is no need for a coal mine now, or anytime in our future on this planet.

The damage to our health, our drinking water, the very air we breathe is at risk … as well as our ocean, the sensitive ecosystem, the fish, the wild salmon, the birds, the wildlife … as is the very beauty that inspires artists and photographers to create their works on this paradise we live in, called Vancouver Island.

FREEBIE !! … I feel so strongly about NO Coal Mine in the Comox Valley and on Vancouver Island, I created this. Say “NOtoCoal“

Please share it, use it, put it on your Facebook profile or business page, share via other social networks and/or your website/blog … please spread it and help STOP this proposed Coal Mine. In addition to the damage it will do to our environment and the beauty that surrounds us on Vancouver Island, coal is a known carcinogen.

In 2011 I was selected as a Featured Speaker at Social Media Camp (a social media conference in Victoria, B.C., on Vancouver Island) and I spoke on the topic of iPhone Photography for Marketing and for Personal, Self-Expression.

In order to show some of the elements of fine art and design used in photography, I used this image as one example, as a display of the elements of both texture and line.

50 Photos 50 Years : Number 23

Although I’m a few days behind in my posts, for my 50th birthday iPhone Art and Photography project, I’ve taken way more than 50 photos since beginning on April 13th, 2011.

The challenge of the iPhone 3G camera, the challenge of finding something new each day to photograph that excites me or calms me, and the challenge in choosing daily, what might have meaning for you, has been an incredibly joyful process.

The image below comes from my forest walk this morning, and it is almost better than what I saw in the forest, yet at the same time, when I look at it, it’s almost as if it takes me back there again in a flash … but it also takes me to a new place that I’ve never been before. Fascinating. What do you see?

So, here is Number 23 of my 50 Photos 50 Years iPhone image project and lucky me, I live within minutes of this forest walk, and no matter how many times I walk it, it changes every day. When in the forest, what I see, what I feel, what I find and how I view it, changes daily. That’s what I love about nature. It’s just never the same.

Going to the same place, never reveals the same image, if you just look, and SEE.

A friend of mine commented “Deluscious!” on this photo, and I like it! It’s a perfect description and I’m enjoying this 50th birthday photo adventure all the way, every day.

50 Photos 50 Years : Number 11

Today was a special day, SUNNY, warm, gorgeous, and the sunset in my neigbourhood on Vancouver Island, was stunning. So, I am posting TWO images tonight for my 50 photos 50 years iPhone project. (These two are counting as image number 11, day 11)

P.S. Some have asked me about these images, they can’t believe they were captured with an iPhone 3G, so here you go : These two images, the two which are “Number 11″ in my 50 photos 50 years series, were, in the final stage just prior to posting, put into Photoshop ONLY for noise reduction.

Otherwise, ALL of my images are captured AND post-processed ONLY using an iPhone 3G, unless I say so otherwise. The reason for having to use Photoshop for noise reduction on these two images only, is that often the iPhone 3G does not perform well in low light or evening situations, and the pixelization and noise is far too high for my artistic likings, and my goal with iPhone photography, is to not only use it as a powerful marketing and advertising tool, but more importantly, to create ART.

I will always tell you if Photoshop was used, otherwise, I’m a purist, iPhoneographer, using only the camera as my tool of choice. The color you see in these images came directly from the original photograph, plus via the addition of multiple iPhone applications used, so the ART, is pure. Only final noise reduction was done in Photoshop.

P.S. P.S. There ARE iPhone apps which CAN reduce noise in your iPhone images, however, I have found their performance sub-standard.
